These recent works are a meditation on landscape. Not so much how to juxtapose a tree and a pond with distant mountains; but how to convey a sense of place by absorbing its light and colors and its particular atmosphere. I blur my eyes. I take my glasses off to paint. I rush and muddle the paint and try and keep technique off my mind. I compose and choose colors counterintuitively. I try my best to let a painting look as if it were made from paint.
